Memoirs: The Final Chapter

Memoirs: The Final Chapter is video making project designed for children aged 5-18 who are suffering from serious or terminal illness.  Children will be invited to participate in the making of DVDs, and will be given the opportunity to address the spiritual issues surrounding death.  They will be encouraged to fully engage in the creative process as a way to provide relief from isolation and frequent placement in a sterile environment.  Families will be provided with the final project as memoir of their family member.
Nina Carlson is a graduate student in music theory/composition.  She has written music for a variety of mediums, including works for chorus, piano, percussion, winds, strings, and for a variety of electronic mediums, as well as theatrical music.  She was instrumental in creating Unheard of!, a community concert series that features the latest works of New Mexico composers, and is currently coordinating a weekly concert series at UNM Hospital for the Arts-In-Medicine program.  Nina will receive her Master’s degree in spring of 2006.
